Camping Polderland

The camping site is situated in the countryside, 3 km south of ’s-Gravendeel, naar the village Mookhoek.
The camping is appr. 1 acre in size, open from April to October and is suitable for tents and caravans.
The rural area around Mookhoek has various polders. Polders are pieces of land below sea level, surrounded by dikes to protect them from flooding by the rivers around.
Our camping lies in the polder “Trekdam” which dates back from the year 1600. The soil is appr. 0.60 meter below sea level. The last flood took place in 1953, after which the dikes were improved in a project called: Delta works. The Delta works included not only the improvement of dikes, but also the building of various dams in the rivers.
The main agricultural activity in the area is crop production. Farmers grow wheat, potatoes, sugar beet and a variety of vegetables, of which the Brussels sprouts are the most important.
The region is very suitable for long walks, cycling, bird watching and relaxing. The city of Rotterdam with its big harbour is at 25 km. The old town of Dordrecht is at 10 km from our camping. The national park: The Biesbosch is 15 km away, and the North Sea is at a 1 hour drive from our place.
